CPD Resources

 

The main function of The Ethos Consortium is to support schools in developing deep change in educational contexts in favour of character education. This means:
  • affecting multiple staff, preferably whole staff understandings, and not single individuals (although it starts with just one…)
  • being an issue of heart and mind, not just a procedure or piece of paper
  • change that drives through to young people’s experience of schooling, not something that excites staff and changes nothing, as so much CPD does
We recognise that all of these are very difficult in turn. Taken together, the prospect of this kind of change can be demoralising to even the most idealistic and committed teacher. We both want to help you keep these ambitious things in mind, and help you find ways of making them trivial when you discover how great the momentum feels of starting to achieve them.

Most of all, we recognise above all that only YOU and your colleagues can really change the life experiences of the children you teach. So, whilst we recognise the importance place there is for online and distance provision of resources for use in classrooms, we think it’s far more important that we help professionals begin to make major grassroots change in their own school contexts. What we’d hope this site and its contents encourages you to do would be to:
  • be interested enough to look and find us (you’ve done that already)
  • be prepared to think hard and look in detail (you’re doing that right now)
  • recognise and feel validated by the positives and the reflections of excellences and aspirations in your own practice and that of those you work with (we’re sure that’s happening to you too)
  • be inquisitive and undaunted by anything you see which makes you wonder if your school is managing it (or even whether your school is aware it should try it!)
  • start to form an idea of who else and how you could bring in to this debate – starting by getting them to look at bits of this site
  • contact us and ask about ways you, your school and its students could benefit from some of the ideas you find – both those you’re doing (and hadn’t realised well enough were being done) and those you now think you should be doing
  • speak to your headteacher and look at ways of impacting on your school’s life and ethos by deep and meaningful change – with the CPD resources we provide, the links and ideas we offer, or the services we can source for you

And then you’ve started an amazing journey – for yourself and a lot of other people.
